Italian Meatloaf – As Heard on WROK

Makes 4 servings
Active Prep Time: 20 minutes  Bake Time:  1 hour & 5 minutes

“This is such a nice spin on an old classic.  We love it.”

1 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground mild Italian sausage
1/2 onion – chopped
3 cloves garlic – minced
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 egg
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup grated parmesan
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce ; divided
2 cups mozzarella cheese – shredded

1)  Preheat oven to 350. Lightly oil a 9- x 5-inch loaf pan.

2)  In a large bowl, combine beef, sausage, onion, garlic, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire, parsley, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, Parmesan and 1/2 cup tomato sauce and 1 cup mozzarella. Spoon into prepared pan and gently pack down. Bake 55 minutes. Pour off drippings.

3)  Spread remaining tomato sauce on top of the loaf and sprinkle with remaining 1 cup mozzarella.  Place back in the oven for 10 minutes to melt cheese.  Pour off drippings and remove from pan before slicing.

*You can make this ahead of time or the night before and toss it in the oven when needed.*
