Rolling Pins: Beyond Making Dough

The good ol’ rolling pin…most of us probably have one in our kitchen, but just how often do you use your’s to roll out dough for bread, cookies, pizza crusts, etc.?

While mine comes in handy from time-to-time, I’ve also found some other uses for the rolling pin too! Some of my favorites include:

  • Flatten meat. You can use your rolling pin to flatten chicken or even pound meat to a uniform thickness.
  • Grind nuts or crush crackers. If you just need a few nuts crumbs for a topping – try grinding them under the rolling pin crush them up. This works best on softer nuts such as walnuts or peanuts, but it’ll work with most, if you apply a bit more pressure. For crackers – put them in a small plastic bag before you begin rolling to be sure you collect all the tiny crumbs.
  • Back rub. Outside of the kitchen, ask your husband or wife to use the rolling pin to relieve the stress of the day. It works great!

  1. It’s not my favorite but my kids seem to love making bridges out of them in the sand pit!
